Marcos Signs Law Resetting BARMM Election Schedule

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act No. 12317, establishing a new election timetable for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Under the new law, the first regular BARMM elections will be held on the second Monday of September 2026.

Beginning 2031, BARMM elections will be synchronized with the country’s national and local polls, scheduled every second Monday of May, and every three years thereafter.

The measure seeks to align the Bangsamoro electoral process with the national election calendar, promoting a more efficient and coordinated conduct of elections nationwide.
