Bureau of Immigration Launches Investigation to Pagadian City Mayor Sammy Co's Citizenship

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched a formal investigation into the citizenship of Pagadian City Mayor Samuel “Sammy” Co, BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval confirmed.

The probe follows claims by an online news outlet questioning Mayor Co’s Filipino citizenship and alleging the use of potentially fraudulent documents.

Mayor Co previously addressed the issue during the Paskohan Festival, affirming that he is a Filipino citizen, born in Pagadian City. He also noted that his father is Filipino and that he was born at the Sto. Niño Clinic six years after his father had settled in the Philippines.

The BI said it will thoroughly examine the matter to determine the validity of the allegations and will release updates as the investigation progresses.
