San Jose City, Nueva Ecija – A tragic story of heroism unfolded in San Jose City after a nurse and disaster responder lost his life while rescuing flood victims.

The victim was identified as Alvin Jalasan Velasco, a nurse, ambulance driver, and a dedicated member of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO).

Originally from Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, Velasco had been living in San Jose City with his family after marrying a local resident.

According to reports from his fellow responders, Velasco was actively involved in rescue operations amid severe flooding in the area. While assisting residents trapped by rising waters, he attempted to save an individual being swept away by strong currents.

Velasco managed to reach and hold onto the person, but the water’s powerful surge dragged him under. His colleagues tried desperately to pull him back to safety, but their efforts were in vain. He disappeared beneath the floodwaters and was later confirmed dead.

Velasco’s bravery and selflessness stand as a testament to the unwavering commitment of frontliners and public servants who risk their lives for others. His sacrifice will be remembered as an act of true heroism.
