Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur - A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two female high school students and left another student-driver seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding lost control and crashed into a residential house in Purok Sili III, Barangay Balintawak, around 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2025.

The victims were identified as Zaipoden Tiffany, 16, and Junalyn Oliva, 17, both students of Zamboanga del Sur National High School. The motorcycle driver, Stanley Abrea, a minor and a fellow student, sustained a serious head injury and is currently confined at a local hospital.

Initial police investigation revealed that the group had just come from an outing in Barangay Palpalan, a hilly area in the city, along with other friends who were also on separate motorcycles. In total, three motorcycles were part of the group.

As the group descended from the mountainous road and approached a curved section, the motorcycle driven by Abrea reportedly suffered brake failure, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a nearby house. Witnesses said the driver managed to jump off moments before impact, while the two female passengers were thrown off violently.

One of the girls was declared dead on the spot, while the other was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Authorities from the Pagadian City Police Station are continuing their investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, legal proceedings are expected to be pursued against the underage driver, despite his current condition and age.

The community remains in mourning over the sudden loss of the two young lives, as calls for stricter road safety and monitoring of underage drivers continue to surface.
