Teen Found Dead in Apparent Suicide in Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur

A 15-year-old female student was found dead in an apparent suicide by hanging inside their home in Barangay Tubod, Lakewood, on the afternoon of November 10, 2025.

According to police reports, the victim’s mother discovered her daughter’s body at around 3:30 p.m., after finding their house locked. She immediately sought assistance, prompting local police and personnel from the Lakewood Rural Health Unit to respond.

Authorities said the attending physician confirmed that the cause of death was injury to the neck consistent with hanging. Investigators ruled out foul play.

Initial findings revealed that the teenager had been emotionally distressed prior to the incident. Reports indicated she became upset after her mother failed to buy her a laptop and following a minor dispute with her brother over a missing ten-peso coin.

The night before the tragedy, she allegedly told her cousins, “This will be our last bonding together,” which now appears to have been a forewarning of her intent.

Police and local officials are urging parents and guardians to be more attentive to the emotional well-being of their children. They emphasized the importance of open communication, emotional support, and strengthened school-based counseling programs to help young people manage stress and personal challenges.
