Pagadian City, July 24, 2025 — A raging fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, destroying at least 11 houses in Purok Esmiralda B, Barangay San Jose, Pagadian City.

According to reports from residents, the fire erupted at approximately 4:30 AM. Responding units from the Pagadian City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), along with personnel from other local authorities and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Initial findings indicate that the fire originated from the residence of a certain Raniel Visintasyon. Due to the predominantly light and combustible materials used in the construction of nearby houses, the flames spread rapidly, engulfing adjacent structures within minutes.

In an interview with the, CDRRMO Officer Sir Richard Fabria disclosed that the BFP received the fire alert at 5:16 AM, arrived at the scene by 5:21 AM, and managed to contain the fire by 5:45 AM.

While no fatalities or injuries were reported, several motorcycles and livestock were lost in the blaze. Authorities are still determining the exact number of families affected.

Preliminary investigations suggest that faulty electrical wiring may have caused the fire, possibly triggered by an overcharging cellphone.

As of press time, further investigation is underway to determine the definitive cause of the incident, assess the total damage, and identify all affected households.
