Rock Child’s Band: 12 Years of Passion, Purpose, and Pure Rock Energy

From jam sessions on lazy Sundays to sharing stages with some of the biggest names in Original Pilipino Music (OPM), Rock Child’s Band (RCB) has been carving its story in the local music scene since 2013. What started as a hobby for seven music-loving friends has evolved into a legacy of grit, creativity, and heart.

Humble Beginnings, Big Dreams

RCB was formed in July 2013 by founding member Julius Naranjo, who gathered six others who shared his love for music. The group originally called themselves Sunday Stereom a cheeky nod to their only free day for rehearsals. Later, the name Rock Child’s Band was born from a playful yet aspirational idea: “rock child” being a term often used for children of famous musicians something the members could only dream of at the time.

“Wala man mi gikan sa mga sikat nga pamilya, pero we had passion,” Julius jokes, “so we claimed the name anyway.”

Sound Experiments and Early Recognition

In 2015, RCB released an experimental EP via SoundCloud, featuring original singles like Don’t and Pangarap. These songs earned airplay on local stations like Bell FM Pagadian and Cool Radio Ozamiz for multiple weeks. The same year, they landed in the Top Ten of the Alab Independent Musician Rising competition, putting them on the indie music map.

From then on, RCB began performing across the region, joining songwriting competitions like Bace Productions, Museco, and even making it to the Wishcovery rounds of Wish 107.5 FM in 2019 a milestone that still distinguishes them as the only band from Misamis Occidental to perform on the iconic Wish Bus.

Growing Pains and New Blood

Like many bands, RCB saw its share of challenges and lineup changes. But from 2017 onwards, a new generation of musicians gave the band a second wind. Joining Julius were Edherlyn Roma (vocals), Riel John Villones (drums), Kyle Ursaiz (bass), Jeff Siglos (lead guitar), Jester Bularon (rhythm guitar), and Renante Briones (keyboards) young and hungry artists from Ozamiz, Tudela, and Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

This refreshed lineup brought new energy and led the band to stages all over Mindanao including Davao Music Festival, Kinabayo Festival, Ozamiz City Music Festival, and La Salle Oz Animo Nights, to name a few.

Opening for OPM Royalty

RCB has had the rare opportunity of opening for national artists, such as:

  • December Avenue, Moira Dela Torre, Spongecola, and Siakol

  • Ely Buendia, Parokya ni Edgar, Imago, This Band, and more

  • Even personalities like Daniel Matsunaga, Long Mejia, and Rachel Alejandro have shared billing with RCB

Music with a Message

During the pandemic, RCB released “Aahon Din Ako,” a motivational anthem aimed at lifting spirits during tough times. It received airplay on stations like Sharp FM Ozamiz, DXNT FM Oroquieta, and Jack FM Dipolog proof that even in crisis, their music found meaning.

12 Years Strong And Still Rocking

Today, RCB continues to create content for TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and more, while accepting bookings for weddings, private events, and public festivals. Plans are already underway to write and record new material, reaffirming their commitment to original Filipino rock.

“Kami ang banda nga walay artista nga ginikanan, pero puro tinud-anay ang among musika. After 12 years, we're still here buhi pa, tukar pa.”
Julius Naranjo, RCB founder
