Radio Broadcasters, Stakeholders Join Tree Care Drive in Zamboanga del Sur

Around 35 participants, mostly radio broadcasters and community stakeholders, took part in a tree care activity at the Mechanized and Modernized Forest Nursery (MMFN) in Barangay Baclay on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The initiative focused on weeding and watering indigenous tree seedlings to support their survival and healthy growth.

The activity is part of the monthly environmental programs of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Zamboanga del Sur Chapter, conducted under a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Office IX (DENR-9).

The MOA emphasizes continued post-planting care to ensure saplings thrive beyond the initial planting phase.

The event was organized in partnership with DENR-9 and received support from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Ramon Magsaysay, the 1st Field Artillery Battalion (1FAB), and intern students from J.H. Cerilles State College and Yllana Bayview College.

Forester Jessalou A. Tabat led a short orientation, highlighting that activities such as weeding and watering are simple yet essential steps in forest stewardship.

She stressed that these efforts significantly improve seedling survival rates and contribute to the long-term success of reforestation programs.

The collaborative tree care drive underscores the growing partnership between media practitioners, government agencies, the military, and educational institutions in promoting sustainable environmental practices and reinforcing community-based forest conservation efforts in Zamboanga del Sur.
