PROPOSED 2026 BUDGET OF THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT SWIFTLY APPROVED BY SENATE PLENARY

In less than five minutes, the Senate plenary swiftly approved the proposed ₱27.3-billion budget of the Office of the President (OP) for 2026.

No senator raised questions regarding the OP budget during the deliberations. Senator Jinggoy Estrada moved to terminate the interpellation as a courtesy to a co-equal branch of government and to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., a former senator.

A significant portion of the proposed OP budget will support the Philippines’ hosting of the ASEAN Summit next year.

Alongside the OP budget, the Senate also approved the proposed ₱854-million budget of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) for 2026.

Newly appointed Executive Secretary Ralph Recto attended the deliberations. Recto had also appeared before the Senate plenary in previous weeks in his former capacity as Secretary of the Department of Finance (DOF).
