Proposal to Amend party-list Law gains ground in the House of Representatives PH

The Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) has begun crafting a bill to amend the Party-list System Act, seeking to strengthen representation and accountability within the country’s party-list system.

Abamin Party-list Representative Maximo Rodriguez Jr., PCFI’s External Vice President, confirmed that a drafting committee is now preparing a proposal for what he called a “better and more responsive Party-list Law.” He emphasized that the existing law must be updated to reflect the evolving needs of the marginalized and underrepresented sectors that party-list groups are meant to serve.

Rodriguez noted that the planned amendment aims to improve transparency, reinforce accountability, and ensure that party-list organizations remain true to their mandates. He added that once the draft is completed, it will be released for public consultation.

During its General Assembly, the PCFI also elected a new set of officers for the 20th Congress.

Newly elected PCFI President and TGP Party-list Representative Bong Teves said the coalition’s leadership intends to restore public confidence in the party-list system and in Congress as an institution. He underscored the need for party-list lawmakers to “return to the basics”  to refocus their work on the genuine welfare of their represented sectors.

Meanwhile, Kamanggagawa Party-list Representative Eli San Fernando described the election of new officers as a renewed pledge to transparency, accountability, and integrity in advancing the interests of workers and ordinary Filipinos.
