MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Health (DOH) and the Bureau of Quarantine to intensify monitoring and preventive measures following reports of Nipah virus cases in India.

According to Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro, the DOH has strengthened its surveillance efforts against the Nipah virus and other infectious diseases to ensure the continued protection of public health.

Castro added that the DOH is ensuring that the country’s health protocols remain aligned with the latest advisories and updates from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The health department has also implemented proactive screening measures at the country’s borders, including on-arrival thermal scanning, trained medical observation, and stricter verification of online health declaration forms.

These measures aim to prevent the possible entry and spread of emerging infectious diseases in the Philippines.
