PRESIDENT QUIRINO, SULTAN KUDARAT — A police officer was tragically gunned down by his own mother-in-law following a heated domestic altercation in Barangay Poblacion late Wednesday evening, June 25, authorities confirmed.

The victim, identified as Police Staff Sergeant Bobby Nanali, 37, was assigned to the President Quirino Municipal Police Station and a resident of the town. According to Police Major Aljun Besario, municipal police chief, Nanali was reportedly involved in a serious argument with his wife inside their home around 10:00 p.m.

Initial findings indicate that the dispute intensified, resulting in a struggle over Nanali’s issued service firearm. During the commotion, the officer’s wife allegedly gained control of the weapon and handed it over to her mother.

Moments later, as Nanali stepped out into the garage, he was followed by both women. It was there that the mother-in-law allegedly fired a shot, hitting him in the lower chest. The bullet reportedly exited through his back.

Responders from the President Quirino Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately transported Nanali to a nearby hospital. However, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The mother-in-law, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, is now under police custody. Authorities have also declined to release the name of the officer’s wife as the inquiry remains ongoing.

In a statement, the President Quirino police expressed grief over the loss of one of their own, describing SSG Nanali as a committed and exemplary officer. He had received multiple awards and commendations for his service and dedication to duty.

Major Besario assured the public that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway.

“We are exploring all possible angles to uncover the full truth behind this tragic incident. We will ensure that justice is served,” he said.

As the community mourns the loss, the police force vows to handle the case with utmost transparency and due process.
