PNP Chief Torre Wins by Default as Baste Duterte Skips Charity Boxing Match

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Nicolas Torre III was declared the winner by default in the highly anticipated charity boxing match against acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte after the latter failed to appear at the “Boxing for a Cause: Laban Para sa Nasalanta” event held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, July 27.

The announcement came moments after Gen. Torre stepped into the ring. Event officials initiated a mandatory ten-count to allow Duterte to make his appearance, but the acting mayor did not show up.

Hundreds of spectators flocked to the venue to witness the charity bout aimed at raising funds for disaster victims. The main event, which was expected to be a major highlight, concluded abruptly due to Duterte’s absence.

Prior to the main match, three undercard fights entertained the crowd, providing some action for the attendees despite the no-show controversy.

Organizers have yet to confirm whether the match will be rescheduled following Duterte’s earlier request to move the fight to another date.
