Persistent Rains Expected Over Mindanao Due to ITCZ; Public Urged to Stay Alert

Residents across Mindanao are advised to brace for continued rains and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its latest weather advisory issued Sunday afternoon, PAGASA said widespread cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms are expected throughout Mindanao. These weather conditions may bring moderate to heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in flood-prone and mountainous areas.

“The influence of the ITCZ remains strong over Mindanao. We urge residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions,” PAGASA said in its bulletin.

While the southern Philippines deals with wet weather, other parts of the country including Metro Manila and surrounding provinces will experience generally fair conditions with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers due to the easterlies.

PAGASA also issued a separate warning regarding dangerously high heat indices in at least 24 areas across the country. Although Mindanao is experiencing rain, certain inland areas may still face elevated temperatures during non-rainy periods, warranting caution.

The state weather bureau reminds the public to stay updated with the latest forecasts, prepare emergency kits, and avoid crossing swollen rivers or flooded roads. Local government units are also encouraged to monitor and respond promptly to any weather-related emergencies.
