ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities confiscated close to ₱1 billion worth of shabu in a series of operations led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-9) and local police within a span of just two weeks.

According to the latest report from the Zamboanga City Police, one of their successful operations was the arrest of a former soldier from Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, on August 19. The suspect was caught in possession of shabu valued at ₱27 million.

A day later, on August 20, authorities intercepted a vehicle carrying illegal drugs, which yielded 67 kilograms of shabu worth an estimated ₱455 million.

Eleven days after, another operation at a checkpoint in Rio Hondo, Zamboanga City, led to the seizure of shabu worth ₱605 million.

Investigations revealed that the contraband originated from a large-scale shipment of illegal drugs smuggled into Zamboanga. Authorities believe drug traffickers continue to use the so-called “Southern Backdoor” as a major entry point for narcotics into Mindanao.

In response, security measures at key entry points across the region have been tightened to curb the flow of drug smuggling operations.
