PAGADIAN CITY — With flags waving and hearts filled with national pride, Pagadian City joined the rest of the country in commemorating the 127th Philippine Independence Day on June 12, highlighting the enduring values of freedom, unity, and nation-building.

In a ceremony led by Mayor Samuel S. Co, city officials, government employees, uniformed personnel, students, and civic organizations gathered to honor the sacrifices of Filipino heroes who paved the way for the country’s sovereignty.

Mayor Co, in his message, urged every Pagadianon to remember the nation’s past and take inspiration from the courage and patriotism of those who fought for independence.

“As we celebrate our freedom, let us also embrace the spirit of unity, patriotism, and shared purpose,” said Mayor Co. “These are the very principles that can guide us in building a strong, inclusive, and progressive Pagadian not just for today, but for generations to come.”

The celebration featured a flag-raising ceremony, wreath-laying at the city monument, cultural performances, and messages that resonated with the national theme: “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”

Various schools and local organizations also participated in commemorative activities, showcasing traditional Filipino dances, songs, and expressions of nationalism.

As the city reflects on its role in the larger national narrative, Mayor Co emphasized the importance of solidarity among Filipinos, especially in facing current challenges such as economic recovery, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

“Independence is not only about remembering our history it’s about continuing the legacy through collective action,” the mayor added.

Pagadian’s celebration stood as both a tribute to the past and a reaffirmation of its commitment to a future marked by progress, inclusivity, and unity under the banner of freedom.
