Over ₱5 Million Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes Seized in GenSan During HPG Operation

The operation took place at around 10:00 p.m., when the truck, reportedly in violation of traffic regulations, was flagged down for inspection. Upon checking, HPG officers discovered 137 master cases of illegal cigarettes hidden inside the vehicle.

The driver, a 40-year-old male whose identity is being withheld, was arrested on the spot after failing to present any legal documents to support the transport of the cargo. He also refused to provide a statement to the authorities regarding the incident.

According to HPG-12, the suspect may face charges for violating Republic Act 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
