TAGUIG CITY — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday called on the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to intensify its efforts in assisting Filipino farmers, particularly in addressing persistent irrigation challenges across the country.

Speaking during the ceremonial turnover of 229 newly acquired operations and maintenance equipment under the third phase of NIA’s re-fleeting initiative, President Marcos underscored the crucial role of irrigation infrastructure in safeguarding food security and supporting the country’s agricultural sector amid the impacts of climate change.

“These new assets will not only help repair damaged irrigation systems but also pave the way for the construction of new water projects in underserved areas,” the President said. “They are vital tools in our collective goal to ensure that no farmer is left behind.”

The ceremony, held in Taguig City, showcased a fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, and support vehicles that will be deployed to various provinces to enhance NIA’s field operations.

In his remarks, Marcos urged NIA personnel to use the equipment responsibly and to remain proactive in addressing the needs of farming communities.

“Don’t wait for the farmers to seek you out,” he said in Filipino. “Be the first to approach them. Listen to their concerns. Act swiftly, and above all, serve with honesty and integrity. Let’s not squander the public’s trust.”

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s respect and deep gratitude to the nation’s farmers, whom he described as the “pillars of Philippine society.”

He vowed continued government support through targeted programs designed to uplift their livelihoods and ensure that their hard work translates into a decent standard of living.

“As long as I am President, we will not stop finding ways to improve the lives of our farmers,” Marcos added. “Their success is the country’s success.”

The event marked another step in the administration’s broader agenda to modernize the agriculture sector and promote rural development.
