Malacañang Open to Proposals Aimed at Recovering Stolen Public Funds

Malacañang expressed openness to all proposals that could help recover public funds stolen by corrupt individuals.

In a Palace press briefing, Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Marcos administration is willing to consider any constructive suggestions to ensure accountability and justice.

“At present, the President and the administration are open to all recommendations that will help recover the allegedly stolen public funds and hold those responsible accountable,” Castro stated.

When asked about Senator Ping Lacson’s proposal to allow individuals involved in irregular infrastructure projects to return the stolen money in exchange for reduced prison terms, Castro explained that the President has the authority to grant executive clemency or conditional pardon.

“The President has the power to grant executive clemency, which may include commutation of sentence or conditional pardon, provided that the required conditions are fully met,” she added.
