Malacañang Confirms New Government Post Offered to Ex-PNP Chief Torre

MANILA — Malacañang on Wednesday confirmed that former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III has been offered a new position in government, days after he was relieved from his post as the country’s top cop.

In a Palace briefing, Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the development but declined to provide further details on the role that Torre will assume.

“May nakalaan pong posisyon para kay Gen. Torre, ngunit sa ngayon ay hindi pa namin maaaring ibunyag ang iba pang detalye,” Castro said.

The confirmation came after Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced on Tuesday that Torre had been removed from his position as PNP chief. His relief sparked questions on the sudden change in the police leadership.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, in a separate briefing, sought to address concerns and assure the public of the stability of the PNP despite the transition.

As of press time, Malacañang has yet to announce when Torre will formally take on his new role in government.
