May 27, 2025 – Quezon Province, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the municipality of General Nakar in Quezon province on Tuesday at exactly 12:17 p.m., sending tremors across nearby regions, including parts of Metro Manila.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) confirmed that the quake was tectonic in origin and occurred at a shallow depth of six kilometers. The epicenter was traced approximately 24 kilometers northwest of General Nakar, a remote and mountainous area in the province.

Residents in nearby towns and cities — particularly in Calabarzon and parts of Metro Manila such as Parañaque and Makati — reported feeling the shaking. Some office workers and students evacuated buildings as a precaution. There were no immediate reports of injuries or major structural damage, but local authorities are still conducting assessments in the affected areas.

PHIVOLCS warned that aftershocks are expected and advised the public to remain vigilant. Emergency response teams have been placed on alert while disaster officials in Quezon are checking remote barangays for any impact.

As of writing, no tsunami warning has been issued. Authorities emphasized the importance of preparedness and reminded the public to follow safety protocols during earthquakes.
