The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will coordinate with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to verify the authenticity of documents covering luxury vehicles owned by the Discaya family.

LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza made the statement after the BOC reported that several of the luxury cars in question had no official importation papers, despite LTO records showing complete documentation.

In an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Mendoza said the agency would investigate whether the electronically transmitted papers were genuine. He also raised the possibility that hackers or personnel within the LTO or BOC may have electronically sent falsified documents.

“We want to determine if, over time, there were hackers or perhaps insiders from the LTO or BOC who transmitted documents electronically, but which turned out to be inauthentic,” Mendoza explained.

He stressed that if any LTO personnel are found involved in validating falsified documents, they will face both administrative and criminal charges.

“These transactions mostly happened during the previous administration. If there are LTO employees still in service today who were involved in such irregularities, they will be held accountable.

As Secretary Lopez reminded us, we must ensure that only vehicles with complete and legitimate documents can be registered,” Mendoza said.
