Vice President Sara Duterte has announced that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has granted permission for former President Rodrigo Duterte to take his oath of office as the newly elected mayor of Davao City, following his recent victory in the local elections.

According to the Vice President, legal teams from both the ICC and the Philippines are currently finalizing the necessary procedures to facilitate the swearing-in. The ICC has reportedly given them until noon on June 30 to conduct the official oath-taking ceremony.

VP Duterte added that once the proclamation documents of the former president are secured, he will be able to proceed with his formal assumption of office.

However, she did not disclose details regarding how her father will carry out his functions as mayor, given his current circumstances and the ICC’s involvement.

The development has drawn public attention, considering the former president's legal challenges and the unique implications of being allowed to serve a local government post amid international scrutiny.
