MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE

A 25-year-old housewife is facing murder charges following the brutal slaying of her husband inside their residence in Barangay Ladia on Thursday, May 8.

The suspect, identified as Ana Maliga Biwang Mustapha, is now in police custody along with her alleged accomplice, Montasir Baito Usop, after authorities said she stabbed her husband and fatally slit his throat in a violent domestic altercation.

Lt. Col. Esmael Madin, chief of the Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station, confirmed on Friday, May 9, that Mustapha voluntarily surrendered to responding law enforcers and local community leaders shortly after the incident.

The victim, 50-year-old Norodin Gumaga Mustapha, was found in critical condition by emergency responders and rushed to Cotabato Sanitarium Hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had been entangled in frequent domestic disputes prior to the deadly encounter. According to eyewitness accounts gathered by investigators, Mustapha allegedly contacted Usop by phone and asked him to bring her a bladed weapon with the intent to kill her husband.

Usop reportedly complied and delivered a knife to the Mustapha residence. Upon receiving the weapon, Ana Mustapha allegedly launched a sudden and deadly attack stabbing her husband in the abdomen before slitting his throat as he fell to the ground.

Authorities quickly responded to the scene, aided by volunteer community watchmen, and placed both suspects under arrest. They are currently detained in separate holding cells at the Sultan Kudarat police facility.

Formal charges of murder are being prepared against the suspects and will be filed with the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Maguindanao del Norte.

In accordance with Islamic customs, the remains of Norodin Gumaga Mustapha were interred within 24 hours of his death by grieving relatives.
