The Supreme Court clarified that the House of Representatives may still file a motion for reconsideration regarding its recent decision declaring the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte as unconstitutional.

Court spokesperson Atty. Camille Sue Mae Ting made this statement following the high tribunal’s unanimous ruling to strike down the impeachment complaint. According to Ting, while the Court’s decision is “immediately executory,” the House retains the right to seek reconsideration and present its arguments before the Court.

The Supreme Court earlier announced its verdict, declaring the impeachment articles invalid for violating constitutional provisions. The decision, approved by a 13-0 vote with two inhibitions, cited two primary reasons: the breach of the one-year bar rule on the filing of impeachment complaints and the denial of due process.

Ting explained that the Court found irregularities in the swift passage of the impeachment complaint without proper adherence to due process. These constitutional violations prompted the Court to nullify and void the impeachment proceedings against the Vice President.
