Four soldiers were wounded following an armed encounter between government troops and remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the mountainous area of Barangay Hagpa, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, on Thursday, May 23.

According to the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division (4ID) of the Philippine Army, the soldiers sustained injuries during a focused military operation prompted by credible civilian reports of alleged extortion activities perpetrated by communist rebels in the area.

The responding troops from the 28th Infantry Battalion swiftly mobilized after receiving the tip-off, leading to a brief but intense firefight with the armed group. Their quick action successfully disrupted the rebels’ plans and prevented further threats to local communities.

Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4ID, commended the bravery and resilience of the wounded soldiers, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to protecting the Filipino people despite sustaining injuries in the line of duty.

"Our troops have shown courage and patriotism. Even while wounded, they remain steadfast in their mission. We salute their sacrifice," said MGen. Anayron in an official statement.

In response to the incident, the Armed Forces immediately deployed the Tactical Operations Group 10 along with medical teams to provide combat casualty care. The wounded soldiers were airlifted using Black Hawk helicopters for immediate medical attention.

The military has launched continued pursuit operations to track down the fleeing NPA members and ensure peace and security in the region.

MGen. Anayron also appealed to the public to include the injured soldiers in their prayers for swift recovery, and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to ending local communist armed conflict through intensified intelligence-driven operations.

As of press time, the identities and conditions of the wounded soldiers have not been disclosed, while authorities continue to monitor the situation on the ground.
