LA LIBERTAD, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE — Four passengers were confirmed dead after a rescue vehicle fell into a spillway in Barangay Paraiso, La Libertad, on the afternoon of June 23, 2025.

The vehicle was carrying residents from Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, and was en route home from Calamba when the tragic incident occurred. Among those who perished, as confirmed by Piñan District Hospital, were:

Michelle Alforo, aged approximately 19–25, Roxan Calibogan, around 50 years old, Nicanor Alforo, around 50 years old, Nathan Alforo, estimated to be 10–12 years old

Barangay Captain Alforo of Brgy. Senote and his family were among the passengers. The driver of the vehicle was earlier identified as Emilio Pantawan.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene following the accident, but despite efforts, the four were declared dead upon arrival at Piñan District Hospital. Local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident while coordinating with the families of the victims.
