MAHAYAG, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR — A former police officer and an active barangay tanod were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by authorities in Barangay Diwan, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.

The suspects were identified as Khalid, a former police officer previously assigned to the Pandag Municipal Police Station in Maguindanao back in 2013, and Mario, a currently serving barangay tanod of Barangay Diwan.

Seized during the entrapment operation were suspected shabu weighing approximately 10 grams, a .38 caliber revolver with two live bullets, a mobile phone, and P10,000 worth of boodle money used in the operation.

The joint operation was part of the intensified anti-drug campaign led by local law enforcement agencies to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.

Both suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Authorities reiterated their warning that no one is above the law, and that those involved in the illegal drug trade regardless of position or past affiliation—will be held accountable.
