The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Zamboanga del Sur, in partnership with the local government of Ramon Magsaysay and various government agencies, launched the nationwide celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month with a bamboo planting activity in Barangay Caniangan on September 2, 2025.

With the theme “KAWAYAN: Kalikasan, Kabuhayan, Kaunlaran sa Kinabukasan Para sa Bagong Pilipinas,” the event highlighted bamboo’s role in environmental protection, sustainable livelihood, and rural development.

The activity was organized in coordination with the Department of Agriculture Region IX (DA-IX), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Zamboanga del Sur, the Provincial Government, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), alongside the Ramon Magsaysay Bamboo Producers Cooperative.

Local leaders, agency representatives, and stakeholders expressed their strong support for the initiative, underscoring bamboo as both an ecological resource and an economic driver. Messages from DTI, DA, DOST, and provincial officials emphasized the importance of bamboo in advancing sustainability and community resilience.

A ceremonial signing of commitment sealed the collective pledge of stakeholders to strengthen environmental stewardship and bamboo-based enterprises. This was followed by hands-on bamboo planting led by MENRO personnel and the local bamboo cooperative.

DTI Zamboanga del Sur, together with its partner agencies, extended gratitude to the participants, volunteers, and the cooperative for their active involvement in promoting bamboo as a symbol of resilience, growth, and a greener future.

The celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month seeks to elevate awareness of bamboo’s potential in fostering sustainable livelihoods and in contributing to environmental conservation key elements in building a stronger, greener, and more progressive Philippines.
