A district engineer from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been placed under police custody after being caught in an alleged bribery attempt amounting to ₱360 million.

The suspect was identified as Engineer Abelardo Calalo, who reportedly offered the bribe to Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste. The incident took place at the congressman’s office in Poblacion Zone 12, Taal, Batangas.

According to investigators, the bribe was intended to stop a planned probe into flood control projects under Calalo’s supervision.

He now faces charges for violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and remains detained at the Taal Municipal Police Station.
