Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco tiu Laurel, Denounces Sinag's "Ghost Deliivery" Allegations

Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. dismissed as “fake news” the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura’s (SINAG) allegations of “ghost deliveries” of fertilizers, saying the claims are baseless and damaging.

“We admitted delays in Regions 1, 2, and 4B—that’s documented. But ghost deliveries? None. If SINAG has proof, they should present it,” Tiu Laurel told reporters Friday after launching the P20 rice program in Navotas.

The DA chief said three suppliers blamed typhoon disruptions for the shipment delays, but sanctions such as fines and blacklisting are being considered. The firms have until September 15 to complete deliveries or face heavier penalties.

Asked about canceling contracts, Tiu Laurel said doing so would only prolong shortages and raise costs.

“This is about trust,” he said. “We won’t tolerate continued delays.”
