COMELEC Strengthens Collaboration With Malls to Boost Voter Registration and Election Services

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is expanding its partnership with major shopping malls nationwide to enhance voter services ahead of the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSK) Elections.

According to COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia, mall operators have been actively coordinating with the commission to support not only mall-based voting but also the rollout of voter registration centers in their establishments.

Originally, only about 50 malls hosted voter registration activities. But with growing interest from mall management to widen public access to election services, the number of participating mall branches continues to increase. COMELEC aims to establish registration sites in up to 100 malls nationwide.

From October through the first week of December, nearly 800,000 individuals have registered for the BSK Elections. The commission is optimistic that the figure will reach 2 million by the May 18 registration deadline.
