Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas has ordered an immediate investigation into a chemical leak that occurred at a resort in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City on Tuesday night, which left 19 individuals needing medical assistance after inhaling chlorine fumes.

According to Mayor Gullas, City Administrator Atty. Rudelyn Navarrosa has been directed to issue a cease-and-desist order against the resort’s management pending the results of the investigation.

Initial reports revealed that 19 people experienced stomach pain, headaches, eye irritation, and difficulty breathing after being exposed to the strong odor of chlorine. The incident was allegedly triggered by the explosion of the resort’s chlorine machine.

Mayor Gullas has also advised residents living near the resort to avoid the area for the time being to ensure their safety.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Talisay, BFP Regional Office, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Barangay Rescue Team, City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CTTODA), and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, were immediately deployed to the site to contain the situation.

The resort will remain closed until authorities complete their investigation and ensure the safety of the facility.
