Camp of Businessman Charlie "Atong" Ang questions DOJ ruling on missing cockfighters Case

The camp of businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang has challenged the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) decision to file charges against him in connection with the case of the missing cockfighters.

According to Ang’s legal counsel, Atty. Gabriel Villarral, the prosecutors’ resolution was allegedly defective, biased, and marred by inconsistencies in the evidence presented.

Villarral said the DOJ relied heavily on the testimony of a single witness whose credibility, he noted, is questionable. He added that there were significant gaps and contradictions that should have prevented the case from being elevated to court.

Because of this, the defense is expected to file a Motion for Reconsideration seeking to overturn the DOJ’s ruling.

The lawyer also pointed out that many of the individuals previously linked to the case including those allegedly involved in the abduction and disappearance of the cockfighters were not charged.

Ang’s camp argued that the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) should reinvestigate the case due to what they described as serious issues concerning the legality and fairness of the process undertaken.
