House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Representative Sandro Marcos has filed a bill seeking to prohibit government officials and their relatives up to the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity from participating in or securing government contracts.

In the explanatory note of the measure, Marcos emphasized that public office is a public trust, in line with the principles enshrined in the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

The lawmaker expressed confidence that the proposal would promote integrity and fairness in the government’s procurement process while minimizing opportunities for corruption in public projects.

A similar measure had earlier been filed in the Senate by Senator Chiz Escudero. Marcos said in a previous interview that he had already spoken with Escudero and is prepared to push for the counterpart measure in the House of Representatives.
