Bars from the South: Rudic’s Legacy in the Filipino Rap Scene

Mindanao’s underground rap scene continues to thrive through the beats and bars of Rudic, an independent rap artist and music producer who has long carried the pride of southern hip-hop.

Starting his rap journey in 2005, Rudic began joining and winning various rap contests across Cagayan de Oro, eventually recording and releasing his own underground tracks the same year. His passion and lyrical prowess soon took him to Metro Manila in 2011, where he made history as the first Mindanaoan battle emcee to enter the FlipTop Battle League one of the country’s biggest rap stages.

In 2014, Rudic crossed paths with DJ Medmessiah, and together they co-founded Morobeats, a collective that would later become a cornerstone of the Filipino hip-hop movement. Their collaboration helped shape a new wave of artists and gave a stronger voice to regional rap culture.

By 2018, Rudic embraced independence as a solo artist, continuing to work on side projects with Morobeats while exploring his own creative direction. His dedication to authenticity led to a major milestone in 2022, when he collaborated with Def Jam Philippines for a single release a testament to his influence and staying power in the scene.

That same year, he founded PG Gang Records with fellow artists from Pagadian City, a label that champions local talent and true-to-roots lyricism. Through his journey, Rudic continues to represent the grit, growth, and greatness of Mindanao’s hip-hop culture.

From underground rap battles to industry collaborations, Rudic’s story is a living anthem for perseverance  proving that passion and authenticity can turn humble beginnings into a national legacy.
