Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur — Authorities successfully recovered two unexploded hand grenades along the shoreline of Purok Fishing Village in Barangay Poblacion, Tabina, on Monday evening, July 14.

According to police reports, the explosive devices were discovered at around 3:15 p.m. by a local resident identified only as “Sonny,” who was walking near the coast when he noticed the suspicious items. He immediately reported the discovery to barangay officials.

Barangay Chairman [Name withheld] promptly alerted the Tabina Municipal Police Station (MPS). Responding police officers rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and ensured the safety of residents in the vicinity.

At around 7:00 p.m., the Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit (PECU) of Zamboanga del Sur arrived and conducted render-safe procedures. Authorities confirmed that the recovered explosives were two M61 fragmentation hand grenades, which were safely retrieved for proper disposal.

The police are still investigating how the military-grade explosives ended up on the shoreline.

In a statement, the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO) reminded the public to immediately report any suspicious objects or ordnance to the authorities and to refrain from touching or moving them to prevent accidents.

“This is a reminder for everyone to remain vigilant. Community cooperation is vital in ensuring safety and order,” the statement added.

No injuries or damage to property were reported in the incident.
