Zamboanga del Sur – May 16, 2025

In a bid to further enhance its collaboration with the Media, the First Infantry “Tabak” Division (1ID), Philippine Army, convened members of the Tabak Defense Press Corps (TDPC) on Friday, May 16, in a landmark gathering aimed at fortifying military-media relations.

The event brought together journalists and media practitioners from various parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Lanao provinces, reflecting the wide reach and influence of the TDPC in regional news coverage.

A key highlight of the event was the election of new TDPC officers, with veteran journalist Leah Agonoy taking the helm as the newly elected president. Her leadership is expected to usher in a renewed era of cooperation and responsible reporting between the press and the military.

In his address during the press conference, 1ID Commander Major General Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr. underscored the indispensable role of the media in promoting transparency, public awareness, and support for the Army’s peace and development initiatives.

“Our soldiers are not just defenders of the land, but also active contributors to nation-building. It is through our partners in media that these efforts are seen, heard, and felt by the communities we serve,” said Major General Barroquillo.

The gathering reaffirmed the mutual commitment of both institutions to uphold truth, integrity, and public service values that are essential in fostering trust and unity among the people.
