Mahayag Mayor Expresses Gratitude for Salug River Dam Rehabilitation

Mayor Manuel Saladaga has expressed his profound gratitude to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. following the successful inauguration of the rehabilitated Mahayag Dam.

In an interview, Mayor Saladaga said it was a great honor and source of pride for the local government of Mahayag that the President personally visited to formally open the project implemented by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), which is expected to directly benefit local farmers.

The mayor explained that both the dam and the accompanying service road project are managed by the NIA under the supervision of the Irrigation Management Office (IMO) and the Regional Office, while the local government continues to provide support and coordination to ensure smooth implementation.

He recalled that the dam was severely damaged by flooding in previous years. Through the concerted efforts of various government agencies, including the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and with the support of provincial leadership, the rehabilitation was successfully completed.

According to Mayor Saladaga, the restored dam is expected to improve agricultural production not only in Mahayag but also in neighboring towns such as Molave and Ramon Magsaysay, benefiting over 5,000 hectares of farmland directly.

The mayor further noted that the Department of Agriculture (DA) continues to educate farmers to help them understand and adopt modern agricultural technologies and programs to improve crop yield and income.

In addition, the DA reported that 20 solar-powered pump irrigation projects have been distributed to 635 beneficiaries in the region. These projects serve as a modern irrigation system that uses clean and affordable energy to boost farm productivity while reducing operational costs.

Mayor Saladaga reiterated his gratitude to President Marcos, highlighting the project as a “major source of hope and support for Mahayag and the entire agricultural sector."
